Vegan Leaders have success stories to share!

Dear Vegan Leader,

We are very excited to share several success stories from our latest round of Vegan Leaders Corporate Initiatives Support Program (VLCI SP) that started in the fall of last year.  Our participants represent a variety of business sectors and several of them used Veganuary to promote plant-based awareness in the workplace.

Did you know that more than 629,000 people from 228 countries and territories officially signed up for Veganuary to try vegan for 31 days, making this the biggest Veganuary ever?  And for the first time ever, the U.S. was the #1 country in terms of sign-ups!  Over 75 businesses – including Harrods, Volkswagen Group, Papa John’s, PWC, The Mill, and Aveda – took part in the Veganuary Workplace Challenge this year

We hope the success stories below shared by our VLCI SP participants will inspire you and even give you some ideas to try in your own company.

Success Story 1: A Fortune 500 Software Company

  • Hosted a learning hour on the topic of plant-based eating.

  • Speakers included Ilana Braverman from the Better Food Foundation who shared how corporations can use behavioral nudges to influence how employees consume food in the office and at events by making the plant-based option the default.

  • The culinary team did a plant-based cooking demo.

  • The event concluded with a panel with all of the speakers and two of the company's senior executives.

  • 186 attendees across 16 countries and 2 continents attended the event.

Success Story 2: A Fortune 100 e-Comm Company

  • Our participant joined up with some colleagues and reached out to the sustainability groups for the Veganuary event. They created a newsletter/Slack campaign that reached about 5,000 employees.

  • The first outreach invited employees to participate in Veganuary and at least 170 people pledged internally to sign up.

  • The second outreach featured a company's senior executive who talked about what the company is doing on the sustainability front and how they were inspired to use Veganuary to do something personally.

  • The third outreach is focusing on inviting the original 170 pledges to join a Slack room where they can build community, share resources, tips, and ideas.

  • Our participant is still hard at work!  Earth Day in April may be another opportunity to re-engage this community to do another plant-based pledge.

Success Story 3: A Global Financial Services Firm

  • To kick off the event,  the U.S. Director of Veganuary, Wendy Matthews, presented to ~225 employees of this financial services firm from 5 countries.

  • The internal team worked closely with Compass One Cafes (their foodservice supplier) to support the Veganuary Campaign by offering more vegan items on their menus. Veganuary participants also received easy meal plans, nutritional guides, a celebrity cookbook, and 31 daily coaching emails.

  • The campaign was launched through Greener Diet, the internal group Judy Scheffel started through her work with our Vegan Leaders Corporate Initiatives program. The group, which was launched in 2017, now has over 700 members in 15 countries.  If anyone else is interested in launching a Veganuary campaign, feel free to reach out to Judy.

Thank you for your support,
