Member Lookup and Networking Guide

If you are a member of our LinkedIn group (Vegan Leaders in Corporate Management), use our growing international community for new connections! Reach out to others to share your experiences. It is fun and actually vital in order for us to give vegans a stronger voice in the corporate world. This guide explains the key aspects of LinkedIn group search and networking. Use it, and you’ll be amazed by the outcome, in your own social and professional life—as well as the bigger change we can drive if united.

LinkedIn groups give you the ability to contact other group members directly (without being 1st degree connections). There are a few things to know about accessing the member directory, messaging specific members and searching for members located near you or working for the same employer or industry.

ACCESSING THE GROUP MEMBER DIRECTORY

This is useful for browsing through the member roster in general, or contacting a specific person by name. (It doesn’t work for keyword, location or employer searches. Those who need to use LinkedIn’s Advanced Search, read below.)

Access the member director from Vegan Leaders’ main LinkedIn group page (which defaults to the discussion forum) by clicking on the hyperlink showing the number of members under the group’s name.

CONTACTING MEMBERS FROM THE GROUP’S DIRECTORY

You are now in the member directory (explained above). To contact a group member directly, hover over their name to make a message icon appear.

Hint: Do not click on their name now—it will open their general profile, and you can only contact them from there if you are 1st degree connections.

SEARCHING FOR MEMBERS BY LOCATION, COMPANY, OR KEYWORD

Use LinkedIn’s general Advanced search to get find members in a particular location, company, industry, or field.

Select the criteria (Keywords, Company, or Location), and apply the search just to Vegan Leaders in Corporate Management (if you have the Premium account), or to Group Members from Relationships (with a basic account).

Tip: Use the Location and Company fields, rather than the Keyword. Results based on geography or employer are more accurate.

Are you a member of non-vegan groups? Consider adding the keyword “vegan” with the other search keywords.

You can save your search and set it to automatically notify you of new results (monthly etc.)

To contact the people from the search results, open a separate LinkedIn window and access the Vegan Leaders member directory (explained above). This is necessary unless you are already a 1st degree connection with the person. Even if you share a group, LinkedIn won’t let you message the person directly from the search results or their profile. Just note their name and contact them from the group member directory (or send them a LinkedIn connect request.)

DEVELOPING RELATIONSHIPS WITH MEMBERS

Once you make the first connection and especially if you bond with the person, you should become first-degree connections to make future messaging easier.

Are you a natural organizer? Take the initiative to introduce your vegan connections to each other, and even organize a meet-up!
